Fighting for a Future: A Luncheon for DIPG Research
05 March 25
A Devastating Diagnosis
In 2018, two-year-old Josephine Laura Dun was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG)—a rare and aggressive brain tumour. Despite the best efforts of her devoted parents, Drs. Phoebe Hindley and Matt Dun, Josephine passed away 22 months later, forever four years old.
Josephine’s parents, both medical professionals, found themselves in an unimaginable position—grieving their daughter while striving to create change for other families affected by this devastating disease.
Understanding DIPG
DIPG is an aggressive, malignant tumour that develops in the pons, the area of the brainstem responsible for vital functions like heartbeat, breathing, and balance. As it grows, DIPG disrupts these essential processes, leading to severe neurological decline.
Each year, around 300 children are diagnosed with DIPG, most commonly between the ages of 5 and 9. Tragically, the prognosis is grim—most patients survive only months after diagnosis, with fewer than 10% living beyond two years and less than 1% reaching five years. Despite these devastating odds, researchers worldwide are working tirelessly to find new treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
Hunter Freemasons Join the Fight
Recognizing the urgent need for action, Hunter Freemasons are proud to support RUN DIPG, a dedicated charity committed to funding critical research, raising awareness, and advocating for better patient outcomes. RUN DIPG strives to bring hope to families affected by this disease and push forward advancements in treatment.
A Special Luncheon for a Worthy Cause
To support RUN DIPG, Hunter Freemasons are hosting a fundraising luncheon at the beautiful Sunset + Vine venue, with all net proceeds directly funding DIPG research.
