Lodge Blacktown Kildare’s December Meeting hits the bullseye!

14 December 24

How do Freemasons balance gratitude, camaraderie, and giving back within a single evening?

Lodge Blacktown Kildare No. 393 answered that question at their December meeting with a blend of ceremony, appreciation, and spirited competition. This event, grounded in a tradition of connection and community impact, showcased how shared experiences can strengthen bonds and inspire positive action.

The December meeting began with purpose and reflection. Under dispensation to tyle early, the Worshipful Master used the opportunity to honour the many sponsors and supporters who contributed to the lodge’s charitable events throughout the year.

Notably, these included the Music Gig in January and the Grand Master Golf Cup in July, both of which raised significant funds for worthy causes. By presenting tokens of thanks, the Worshipful Master reinforced the lodge’s values of recognition and community, setting the tone for the evening ahead.

As the formalities concluded, the lodge transformed from solemnity to excitement. The south was filled with brethren and visitors eager to participate in the 10th Annual Darts Tournament. This wasn’t just a casual affair—it was a battle of precision and strategy, with participants ranging from the Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master, Regional Grand Councillor to District Grand Inspectors of Workings. The highlight? The chance to dethrone Most Worshipful Brother Les Hicks, the 40th Grand Master and reigning darts champion.

The tournament was a fierce battle of focus and skill, demanding participants finish precisely on 393 with a double—a feat that saw many fall by the wayside. Nearly 50 brethren took up the challenge, cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd savouring the lodge’s festive hospitality. As the dust settled, four contenders remained, ready to clash in the final rounds. Among them was Worshipful Brother Leo Bautista, who initially seemed destined for an early exit. But with determination and precision, he defied the odds, launching a stunning comeback. In an electrifying duel, he ultimately dethroned the 40th Grand Master to seize the champion’s trophy, etching his name onto the shield and claiming the title of darts champion. The 40th Grand Master, MW Bro Les Hicks's reign was over—Worshipful Brother Bautista now the 2024 champion.

While the darts tournament was a highlight, its purpose went far beyond entertainment. All proceeds from the event were earmarked for one of the lodge’s charitable initiatives. This dual focus on fun and philanthropy encapsulates the Masonic ethos—bringing people together in fellowship while working toward the betterment of society.

As the evening concluded, the brethren reflected on a successful year, one marked by camaraderie, charity, and shared achievements. But Lodge Blacktown Kildare isn’t resting on its laurels. With a “Rock the Night Away” event planned for January 11th, featuring live bands and promising an energetic start to the new year, the lodge’s commitment to fostering fellowship and supporting good causes remains as strong as ever.

In these moments—whether presenting tokens of gratitude, competing in good spirit, or planning future events—Lodge Blacktown Kildare demonstrates how Freemasonry blends tradition, self-improvement, and community impact. Each gathering is a reminder of the profound joy and purpose that come from shared efforts and the pursuit of common goals.
