Lodge Eltham celebrates.
01 September 23
More than a century has passed since the Masonic Lodge Eltham was established back in 1911. A vision took shape in the preceding year, and on July 20th, 1910, a petition emerged, carrying the signatures of 17 local Masons who shared a common dream. With the recommendation of Richmond River Lodge No. 77 and the endorsement of Lodge Bangalow No. 250, this petition made its way to the Most Worshipful Master of the Grand Lodge of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, seeking approval.
Over these many years, the Masonic community surrounding Eltham has remained steadfast and vibrant. Masons from neighbouring towns like Lismore, Bangalow, Dunoon, and even Byron Bay gather for regular meetings, drawn by the camaraderie and warmth that Freemasonry and its members embody. The tradition that began when fathers donned their evening attire and headed to the lodge has carried forward, a legacy cherished by the generations that followed.
The 22nd of August, 2023, marked a significant occasion. MW Bro Les Hicks, our Grand Master, attended the annual Installation and investiture of officers ceremony at Lodge Eltham No. 272. This picturesque lodge is nestled in a lush valley of the North Coast, just a short journey from Ballina and the QLD border.
Lodge Secretary W Bro Colin Myers speculates that this visit might have marked the first time a Grand Master had set foot in Lodge Eltham. RW Bro Weblin PJGW, GDC, announced the Grand Master and with the support of 23 Grand Lodge Officers, he entered the lodge, which has stood for over a century.
The Re-Installation Ceremony of W Bro Fox was conducted by RW Bro Guthrie, executed with a remarkable degree of proficiency and reverence. After retiring to the South and indulging in a lavish banquet, the MW Grand Master took the stage once more. In the company of our ladies, guests, 34 visiting Brethren, and our devoted members, he presented 60-year Long Service certificates and Jewels to W Bro Yeo, VW Bro Fraser, and RW Bro Weir—esteemed members of Lodge Eltham. His words spoke of honour and privilege, acknowledging their dedication to Freemasonry.
Congratulations to W Bro Fox and the entire Lodge Eltham No. 272! As the journey continues, may the year ahead be filled with success and fulfilment.
