Lodge Southern Cross Celebrates the Installation of a New Worshipful Master

23 June 25

Recently, Bro Justin Dorward was installed as Worshipful Master in a well-attended ceremony at the Sydney Masonic Centre. The evening brought together members, visiting Brethren, and Grand Lodge Officers for a night of tradition, reflection, and optimism. With the theme “Gather. Grow. Give.”, the new Worshipful Master outlined a vision centred on connection, shared growth, and meaningful contribution.

The ceremony was conducted with care and clarity by Installing Master W Bro Albert Attoh, whose calm and dignified presence set a respectful and welcoming tone. The ritual struck a thoughtful balance between honouring Masonic tradition and embracing the Lodge’s strong sense of community.

The event was further honoured by the presence of RW Bro Garry Sayer, Deputy Grand Secretary PAGM, who served as the Representative of the Most Worshipful Grand Master, along with the 37th and 39th Grand Master MW Bro Derek James Robson AM CMH PGM and the 40th Grand Master 40th Grand Master MW Bro Lesley Norman Hicks PGM accompanied by a number of Grand Lodge Officers. Their participation added a distinct sense of significance and support to the proceedings.

The large number of visitors in attendance reflected the respect and goodwill Bro Justin Dorward has built across the Sydney Masonic community, earned through his genuine engagement and active presence in many Lodges. Visiting Brethren from Lodge Antiquity, Lodge Royal Empire, Lodge Castlereagh, Lodge Toxteth, Lodge Kellerman, Lodge Germania, Lodge Ionic, Lodge Ku-ring-gai, Lodge Highways, and Lodge Horizons offered warm fraternal greetings and a strong show of support.

In addition, Lodge Southern Cross was honoured by fraternal visits from Lodge Miguel de Cervantes, Lodge Artarmon United, Lodge Balgowlah, and Lodge Rudyard Kipling, further underscoring the unity and strength of the wider Masonic network.

In his address, the new Worshipful Master introduced his theme with three simple yet powerful words: Gather, Grow and Give. He encouraged members to gather not just for meetings, but to connect in meaningful and personal ways. He spoke of growing through shared experiences and thoughtful reflection, and of giving—by supporting one another and contributing to a purpose greater than ourselves. At its heart, the message is a call to show up: as friends, as Brothers, and as part of a broader community built on trust, care, and shared purpose.

Following the ceremony, the Festive Board came alive with laughter, heartfelt toasts, and lively conversation. Members and guests gathered not only to share a meal, but to celebrate the occasion and enjoy the timeless Masonic tradition of fellowship. A lucky door prize added a light-hearted note, with cheers and good-natured banter filling the room as winners were drawn.

With a renewed focus on community, personal growth, and service, the year ahead promises to be both meaningful and memorable for Lodge Southern Cross.

“A heartfelt thank you goes to W Bro Albert Attoh for leading the ceremony with such grace and care, and to the Grand Lodge Officers whose presence helped elevate the evening. We also extend thanks to all visiting Brethren who made the effort to attend, everyone involved in setting up, preparing, and hosting the event, and to the families and partners who support our members quietly and consistently behind the scenes. It takes many hands to make a night like this happen, and every one of them is appreciated,” said W Bro Dorward.
