Lodge Sydney St George 269 Kicks Off 2025 by Saving Lives
24 March 25
Lodge Sydney St George No. 269 began the year with a meaningful act of community service—supporting the Red Cross blood donation drive held at the Liverpool Donor Centre.
Worshipful Master W Bro Jeffrey Mendoza remarked, “It’s the first time Sydney St George has ever held a blood donation drive, and it will become an ongoing campaign to help our community by saving lives.”
Your Blood Donation Essentials
Your blood can save lives.
Did you know that one blood donation can save up to three lives? Just imagine how many lives you could impact by becoming a regular donor.
How much blood do you give when you donate?
470ml—about 8% of the average adult’s blood volume. Within 24–48 hours, your body naturally restores this volume.
How long does it take to donate?
The actual donation takes just 10 minutes, but allow an hour for the full appointment. This includes meeting with a friendly staff member beforehand and enjoying a complimentary snack and drink afterwards.
How often can you donate blood?
Every 12 weeks. If you're eager to donate more frequently, you can give plasma or platelets every 2 weeks (or 4 weeks after giving blood). Then, you can donate blood again 2 weeks later.
Where Your Blood Goes
- 34% – Cancer and blood diseases
- 19% – Anaemia and other needs
- 18% – Heart, organ, and other non-orthopaedic surgeries
- 13% – Stomach, kidney, and other diseases
- 10% – Fractures and joint replacements
- 4% – Support for pregnant women, new mothers, and young children
- 2% – Road incidents and other traumas
“We're always thinking of how our Lodge can assist our community,” said W Bro Mendoza Said. “That’s how the idea of a blood donation campaign began—it's a simple way to make a big impact. It also gives us an opportunity to promote our Lodge and Freemasonry in general, showing the community the good we do.”
Approximately 25 people participated in the blood drive, including several children. The event concluded with a fellowship lunch at the Collingwood Hotel in Liverpool.
