Standing Together: A SleepOut Story of Unity and Impact

On May 19, 2025, the Brethren of Lodge Weston-Kurri Kurri No. 253, in proud partnership with the Widows Sons Newcastle Chapter, took meaningful action. Standing in solidarity with the Grand Master, Most Worshipful Brother Khris Albano, they answered his call to support Vinnies in its mission to combat homelessness. Their response was a local SleepOut fundraiser, held at the Weston Masonic Centre.
At first, it began with a simple idea: a show of support, a demonstration of compassion, and a way to contribute meaningfully to the Grand Master’s appeal. But as plans took shape, the event became something more—a shared purpose that united not only Masons, but families, friends, and the broader community.
Over the course of 25 days, what started as a modest act of support grew into a remarkable campaign of generosity. With the aid of a Masonicare Grant, the team raised an astounding $9,230 for the Grand Master’s appeal in support of Vinnies’ homelessness efforts. Each dollar reflected the heart and resolve of those who gave—individuals and businesses alike, stepping forward not out of obligation, but out of care.
The community’s response was moving. In a time when many are feeling the weight of rising living costs and economic uncertainty, the outpouring of compassion was nothing short of extraordinary. Acts of generosity—big and small—came from every corner, each one contributing to a powerful message: no one is alone when we stand together.
This event wasn’t just about fundraising. It was about connection. It was about reminding ourselves that Freemasonry is at its strongest when it reaches outward. That brotherhood doesn’t end at the Lodge door—it extends to every corner of our society where help is needed.
Despite a short timeline and limited resources, the Brethren of Lodge Weston-Kurri Kurri and the Widows Sons Newcastle Chapter pulled together with unrelenting determination. Their gratitude for the support received is deep and heartfelt. They are humbled by the response and proud of what was accomplished in such a short time.
Kindness, unity, and the will to serve—these are the values that carried this initiative forward. And they are the same values that will continue to guide Masons in all corners of the state as we seek to make a difference in our communities.
